Organic garden fertilizer is a means to nourish soil that is depleted or tweak vegetable nutrients to uptake better through soil that is more acidic or alkaline. On this page you can discover the N-P-K values of liquid organic garden fertilizers, what are summer and what are fall vegetables, the preferred soil pH for garden vegetables and fruits, the main four types of fertilizers, fast-release and slow-release choices, and how water soluble fertilizers benefit and cost you. You will also find all four choices of our fertilizers and soil conditioners for your garden.
Four types includes organic garden fertilizer
AGGRAND designs organic fertilizer that can be both water soluble and non-water soluble liquid concentrates. These cover two of the four main types of garden fertilizers and they will be a key reference in this discussion. There is also synthetic and granular. We think organic garden fertilizers are the best choices, though AGGRAND is not the only choice.
- The synthetic is quick-release, instant effects but short-lived, and well, synthetic, therefore it does not enhance your garden. In fact, synthetic will deplete soils over time as they kill microorganisms with compaction, salts and chemicals. Synthetic fertilizers are the think-again choices.
- Granular is usually synthetic pellets that release nutrients each time it rains or you water the garden because they hold their pellet or grain shape until they are used up. Granular is about convenience but not always safe for the environment and pets since it is usually not natural. Sometimes appropriate for container flowers.
- Water soluble garden fertilizer is mostly inorganic. When applied, it adds instant nutrients. The problem is water washes most of it away, which is why the N-P-K or three numbers for nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous on the bag is so high, you need more to get enough. Unlike the water insoluble / water soluble organic fertilizer designed by AGGRAND which is designed as a liquid concentrate with the nitrogen in both soluble and non-soluble organic properties, both of which feed the garden and all areas where any runoff could occur. Water soluble synthetic nutrients are delivered plant-ready and expended quickly, resulting in the need for additional fertilizer applications. Synthetic nutrients not immediately used by plants leech into groundwater, causing nitrification of drinking water. They can also runoff into waterways, causing algae blooms that result in hypoxic dead zones that can’t support aquatic life. In addition, chemical fertilizers that are high in salt are toxic to soil biology. Reduction of soil biology leads to compaction of soil and increased susceptibility to erosion. If you purchase water soluble nitrogen garden fertilizer, you want an organic or biobased choice.

Organic Garden Fertilizer
Organic fertilizers are for the long-haul, building up over season after season of gardening. AGGRAND organic garden fertilizer is made from biobased or all natural ingredients. There is quick-release and slow-release as the nutrients are available immediately and over time even more are created when soil microorganisms are happily active in your garden. These are the least likely to burn your garden plants. And though AGGRAND holds lower nutrient levels than other fertilizers, the nutrients are viable and not as much is needed. There is usually no run-off, unless a heavy rain follows fertilizing, so try to fertilize and water when there will not be rainfall for a few days. There are also combinations of AGGRAND fertilizers to create higher levels in what you need, like nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, calcium and sulfur.
Soil pH Preferences for Vegetables
Your garden soil pH means the hydrogen ion concentration of soil or the potential hydrogen for your plants. Acidic or alkaline. Acidic vs. sweet flavors. For vegetable gardens, soil pH is usually best between 6.0 and 6.8 which makes it slightly acidic. A lot of vegetables in your garden like this flavor. But some want the sweeter soil over 6.8. How when using garden fertilizers? Think the sweetness of cold milk, think calcium, and that is tweaking an alkaline pH for the soil. AGGRAND liquid lime is a means for adding calcium, as is our AGGRAND liquid bonemeal with calcium and phosphorous.
List of Vegetables That Prefer Sweet or Acidic Flavor
Vegetable plants what prefer a more alkaline soil are often called fall crops, though they grow well in the cool spring garden, or some of them begin in the spring garden and finish in autumn, like brussel sprouts. Alkaline crops are leafy greens, spinach, lettuce, kale, chard. Also artichoke, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts.
Vegetables and garden fruits that prefer the more acidic soils are tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers melons, zucchini, squash, pumpkins. Also beans and peas, potatoes and yams. Notable though is that when the calcium of soil is bound or non-existent, this is when acid loving tomatoes end up with blossom-end rot, a consequence of not enough calcium which is very low in acidic soil anyway.
Nutrients That Are Bound In Certain Soils
The more alkaline soil creating choices will limit the plant’s phosphorous, iron and zinc. Calcium and magnesium are less available to the vegetables in the more acidic soils. The AGGRAND fertilizers combine to just what you need, if one is not exactly the nutrients.
Temperatures of acidic and alkaline soils are interesting and common sense, you will see. The acidic are summer soils, warm and hot soil where the bacterial activity is high. Alkaline soil is spring cool garden soil, where all is quieter below.
The N-P-K- of Garden Soil
The nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous are those numbers on the bag or jug. These are the macronutrients all plants need to survive, but not exactly what they need to flourish. Tweaking brings us the best garden soil.
What the numbers mean….. If the numbers are say 4-3-3, as are on the AGGRAND All-Natural and the AGGRAND Organic Series 4-3-3, this means there is available immediately to your garden 4% in nitrogen, 3% in potassium and 3% in phosphorous. There are also loads of 10 essential micronutrients including maganese, iron, calcium, sulfur, plus numerous vitamins and amino acids. In contrast, a bag of synthetic fertilizer at 100 pounds with 53-0-0 means 53 pounds or 53% in the bag is synthetic nitrogen, possibly urea, and the balance filler with no micronutrients or other organic benefits unless stated.
This means the organic will keep on feeding, both slow- and quick-release availability to the garden. This means the synthetic fertilizer which is always unnatural and water soluble will feed quickly, wash away and need replenished.
AGGRAND ORGANIC GARDEN FERTILIZER CHOICES TO COMBINE FOR YOUR VEGETABLE CROPS
— ORGANIC SERIES 4-3-3 and ORGANIC KELP If you area produce farm or market grower, do you need organic NOP-certified vegetable garden fertilizer? Then you order the OSF 4-3-3. Otherwise, the NOF 4-3-3. Need 5-gallons or a 55-gallon drum that will last longer?
ORGANIC SERIES 4-3-3 LIQUID FERTILIZER ::: This is a complete certified organic garden fertilizer, the same as AGGRAND All Natural 4-3-3, minus the bloodmeal. It is certified organic. OMRI Listed. Perfect for use by organic market growers that are certified to the National Organic Program standards. Made from whole menhaden fish, beneficial oils and all…. Norwegian kelp…. fulvic acid…. rock phosphate…. sulfate of potash…. wintergreen oil for improved scent. AGGRAND does recommend all NOP-certified growers verify approval of their inputs with their agent. Convenient liquid concentrate, multipurpose fertilizer, excellent results on vegetables, garden and orchard fruits, trees and crops. All AGGRAND liquid fertilizers are formulated for foliar feed and soil applications. Can be mixed with other AGGRAND Organic Series products for easy application in certified organic production. Or mixed with any of their liquid fertilizers, lime, bonemeal for ease of application. Benefits these and more — tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, garlic, onions, herbs, beans, corn, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins.
AGGRAND NATURAL ORGANIC LIQUID KELP AND SULFATE OF POTASH 0-0-8 ::: AGGRAND Organic Kelp Garden Fertilizer Concentrate is made from Ascophyllum nodosum, a species of seaweed grown in the icy North Atlantic Ocean. Can be applied in combination with any AGGRAND liquid fertilizer, foliar and soil feeds. A garden fertilizer for all vegetables and fruits. Organic Norwegian seaweed kelp concentrate is in both 4-3-3 choices, but here it is in full strength. Provides high levels of plant-growth hormones, amino acids, micronutrients, potash, fulvic and humic acids. Creates the plant’s ability for nitrogen uptake – when you are adding the 4-3-3, it is basically all natural nitrogen balanced with potassium and phosphorous. Kelp makes all this available to the plants, but with ours the potash / potassium source is a super fine grade / grind. This means no chloride was used so your plant roots and soil life are safe from damaging salts. Potassium must be present in large quantities because it is a component of the fluids that flood plant tissue. Potassium-deficient plants are susceptible to insect attack, have weak stalks and underdeveloped root systems. STRONG CROPS — Vegetable crops resist fungus when they are strong and invigorated. Kelp does it. Kelp Seaweed Fertilizer 0-0-8 increases vegetable size, shortens ripening time and improves quality and shelf life. Another benefit, the sulfur, considered the fourth major nutrient and would be that fourth number on the bottle, again aiding plants, vines and trees in gaining the benefits from nitrogen and potassium uptake and helps produce higher quality garden vegetables and fruits. Quarts to totes.
— ALL NATURAL USDA BIOBASED 4-3-3 Simply want all natural garden vegetable fertilizers?
AGGRAND ALL NATURAL LIQUID GARDEN FERTILIZER 4-3-3 ::: Fish emulsion combines with organic kelp to create a vegetable fertilizer that accumulates potassium. This enhances heat, drought and cold tolerance properties which are stressors that your garden crops must to handle so they thrive. Increases bacterial activity in soil, and along with fungi and protozoa these actively feed on carbon sources. This causing a process known as mineralization, producing plant-available nitrogen and phosphorus that helps plants grow and develop. All this raises available nitrogen naturally, unlike chemical fertilizers. The Biobased 4-3-3 designed by AGGRAND Fertilizers is essentially the same as their Organic Series 4-3-3 except with bloodmeal and molasses. Thus the ingredients are menhaden fish emulsion concentrate…. seaweed kelp concentrate…. molasses sugar…. sulfate of potash…. bloodmeal…. fulvic acid…. Vitamin B1….. wintergreen oil for improved scent. Great for tomatoes, beans corn, cabbage, potatoes, herbs, small grains, garlic, onions. Even the fruit of cucumbers, squash and pumpkins. A natural fertilizer for garden vegetables and fruits of all kinds. Quarts to totes.
— ALL NATURAL LIQUID BONEMEAL This is a high phosphorus fertilizer for outstanding performance of vegetable crops?
AGGRAND ALL NATURAL LIQUID BONEMEAL ::: Bonemeal is a benefit for tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, garlic, small grains like amaranth, even cucumbers. You are adding a readily useable source of calcium and phosphorous that is both quick-release and slow-release. A possible choice over liming for calcium, depending on your soil analysis if you chose one. This is a high grade, superfine grind of phosphorus to aids in garden plant establishment, increased high quality blooms, thus vegetables and vining garden fruit. Since standard bonemeal preparations most often take years to break down, the phosphorus is confined in the soil. But AGGRAND superfine ground bonemeal in suspension is feeding immediately, and it can even be used as a foliar application for the garden. Spreads deeply into the plant root zone. Apply as a starter fertilizer so it is available throughout the growing season. AGGRAND NATURAL BONEMEAL contains calcium which can improve soil tilth and cation exchange capacity (CEC) and is useful in correcting calcium deficiencies in fruits such as tomatoes. Also highly recommended for berries and citrus trees.
— ALL NATURAL LIQUID LIME Need more calcium for tomatoes?
AGGRAND ALL NATURAL LIQUID LIME ::: Most vegetable garden soils hold to a pH of about 5.8 to 6.3. Incorporating lime into established herb garden, asparagus fields and even after gardens are planted but calcium is needed….. sometimes this seems an impossible project. While not an organic garden fertilizer…. it is a soil amendment…. AGGRAND Liquid Lime gives your garden vegetables that calcium boost they need and all you need is a garden hose with applicator or a backpack sprayer. For instance, in the tomatoes, the blossom end rot is a consequence of calcium deficiency. When soil pH is below 6.0, plants may show signs of calcium deficiency such as leaf yellowing, retarded growth of roots and shoots, die-back of growing tips and premature death of older leaves. AGGRAND Natural Liquid Lime applications easily correct calcium deficiencies without the need to till in bagged lime. Calcium is vital by regulating the opening and closing of the stomata (leaf pores), removing toxins from the tissue and contributing to the development of shoots and roots. All this makes the plant more resistant to unwelcome invaders. Many acidic soils do not contain enough calcium to support prolific plant growth. Features finely ground limestone in a liquid suspension that can be absorbed by leaves and roots. AGGRAND Natural Liquid Lime can be used with AGGRAND Natural Fertilizer to supply additional calcium to vegetables like potatoes, cabbages, small grains like amaranth, even herb gardens, also to fruit crops such as tomatoes. Of course, we suggest that for a closer idea of what fertilizer or conditioning your garden needs, you use a soil test to know what fertilizer or liming aids you will need for your fruit.
